The system was developed and implemented when HospitALL was struggling with handling patient data, appointments, pharmacy stock, and laboratory results traditionally. There was a division of work in the current process, meaning that there was increased inefficient working and errors. It means that as patients and services increase, the management of hospitals would require a more efficient system that could coordinate several areas without a hitch. Also, for effective communication between the healthcare staff and the patient, as well as efficient service delivery, HospitALL needed a solution that could be accessed by all parties.
The problem was to create an environment in which all the processes, starting from patients’ registration and schedule, ending up with inventory and real-time data, would be managed, but at the same time, the system would be easy to use and would allow future expansion.
For the development of our Hospital Management System (HMS), we utilized Laravel – a PHP framework that allowed us to develop a scalable, secure, and optimized system. The solution included a range of features tailored to the unique needs of the hospital:
Besides the hospital management system, we organized social media management services to ensure that HospitALL gained wider customer reach. We directly posted on their behalf, interacted with the audience, and advertised their services through appealing campaigns that popularized them among the users.
Patient Management
A patient registration, health record management, and appointment scheduling system that enhances the health sector through health delivery.
Appointment Management
Integration with the availability of doctors for appointments and confirmations and reminders to enhance patient flux and minimize waiting time.
Pharmacy and Inventory Management
A module for monitoring the medication, stock, and orders to minimize stock-out issues while enhancing the supplies of the pharmacy.
Lab Management
Inclusion of laboratory systems for efficient order and processing of tests, updates of tests’ results in real-time for the necessary actions.
Ward and Bed Management
Real-time tracking of available beds, assignments of patients to these rooms, and the care given to patients within wards.
Admin Portal
An all-inclusive program for staff and financial management, records of patients, and management of the whole hospital.
HospitALL needed real-time data input from many different departments, including registration, pharmacy, laboratory tests, and bed status. Such data had to be kept in parallel and be presented concurrently for real-time decision-making requirements.
To achieve our objectives, we implemented Laravel to build a fully extensible backend capable of processing a large amount of real-time data from various sources for fast and efficient communication between departments. All the data is well protected and, at the same time, easily retrievable by different users depending on their authorization level in the platform.
Doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and administrators had to be able to use the system and its functions, so the system’s accessibility had to be as simple as possible.
To support these goals, we emphasized creating an intuitive and easy-to-navigate interface through which patient records can be easily managed, appointments scheduled, and inventories tracked regardless of the user’s level of computer literacy. The platform has a dashboard where the overall activities of the hospital are displayed clearly and in real-time, meaning that the staff of the hospital is well-informed.
